Accessibility

Every golfer should be able to keep score.

Here is the standard we test Back9Ops against, the screens we test, what we have not tested yet, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.

What we test against

  • WCAG 2.2, level AA. This is the usual standard for accessible websites. We check the screens listed below against it, in the light theme and the dark theme.
  • Text at double size. When a phone's text is set to 200 %, the scorecard stays readable, nothing runs off the side of the screen, and every score key stays at least 48 pixels each way. When a screen gets too long, it scrolls instead of cutting words off.
  • A keyboard instead of a finger. On the score keys, Tab moves through the numbers in reading order, you can see which key is selected, and Enter or Space saves the score.

The screens we test

  • Scoring from a QR code, with no account: the welcome page and the hole card
  • A signed-in golfer's own scorecard: entering a score and the full card
  • The live leaderboard, on a phone and on a big screen
  • Public standings for match play and team events
  • Signing up for an event as a guest
  • The front desk screen at the counter
  • The first step of creating an event
  • This website, back9ops.com: every page, on a phone and on a computer

Automated accessibility checks run on each of these screens, plus a keyboard-only run and a double-size-text run on both scoring screens.

What we have not tested yet

  • The Back9Ops phone app from the App Store and Google Play. Its screens are not part of these checks yet.
  • Organizer screens other than the two listed above.
  • Screen readers. Our checks cover the labels a screen reader reads out, but we have not yet tried each screen with VoiceOver, TalkBack or another screen reader.

Tell us when something gets in your way

If any part of Back9Ops is hard to use — a button you can't reach, words you can't read, a screen that doesn't work with your settings — email sales@back9ops.com or use our contact form.

Tell us which page you were on and what happened. A person reads every message and will write back.
